Alan, thank you for over half a century of my musical education, starting way back when we both sold 78s at Art Music in the early 50s. I’m going to listen again to the hour’s conversation we had in ’94 about KPFA and the seminal role you played in making it what it once was: http://www.kpfahistory.info/conv/conv021_rich.mp3

The beginning of the New York installment of Alan’s career is covered in a conversation with a later KPFA music director, Will Ogden, recorded in 1962: http://www.kpfahistory.info/music/rich-ogden.mp3

Debussy’s ‘Pelleas et Melisande’ is the most exquisite, the most ravishing and the most addictive of all operas.

I loved his book. I take it with me every year to the Ojai Festival to re-read it.
